A POLICEMAN charged with murdering his son was denied bail by the Lae Committal Court yesterday.
Magistrate Pious Tapil remanded Arnold Kisa, 48, from Malalaua’s Yakidangoi village, Gulf, in Buimo prison.
He told Kisa to seek bail at the National Court.
“In the meantime, police will be given three months to investigate and have their files ready for your next appearance on May 25,” Magistrate Tapil said.
After reading the charge to Kisa, Magistrate Tapil told him that normal committal court process would apply and he (Kisa) would have to wait in remand for his files to be completed.
The court also understands that at the time of committing the alleged offence, Kisa was the acting police station commander of Menyamya Police Station.
Police alleged that Kisa, on Dec 31, allegedly committed the murder between 7pm and 9pm in the police station.
Police said the family was doing a mumu for a gathering when Kisa got into an argument with his second wife.
That is when the son of the second wife (deceased) intervened to help his mother and was shot.
Police also alleged that Kisa, at that time, was under the influence of alcohol and was supervising his policemen and other family members in preparing the mumu for policemen from Bulolo who were sent there for operations during the New Year period.
The court heard that when his angry son (deceased) threw objects onto the roof of the house, Kisa punched him twice and he fell.
Upon issuing threats to his father, Kisa allegedly took his rifle, fired five shots in the air and chased his son away.
The wife then tried to take cover when Kisa fired at her but shot his son instead.
