A 35-YEAR-OLD man was charged in the Waigani Committal Court with murdering his wife on Feb 4.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura read out the charge to Sisi Kulo, from Rigo’s Gabone village, Central, and told him the court would not consider any bail application.
He told Kulo that he was innocent until proven guilty and that it was the job of the police to find evidence to prove his crime. Magistrate Wakikura then ordered Kulo to be remanded and fixed March 8 for next mention.
“This is to give police time to file their hand up brief on the case,” he said.
Between 1.30pm and 2pm on Feb 4, at Kipo Market in East Boroko, Kulo allegedly confronted his wife, grabbed her hair and swung a kitchen knife at her while she was doing marketing with her cousin sister.
His wife then struggled to flee from Kulo who allegedly held her tight and stabbed her twice on the left side of her chest.
A bystander then rushed up to try and save the wife but Kulo had already stabbed her and was telling the bystanders that she was his wife. It was alleged that Kulo then let go of his wife who collapsed and he fled from the crowd.
Some boys at the market chased Kulo to Bavaroko Primary School, caught him and took him to the Boroko Police Station while the wife was rushed to Port Moresby General Hospital.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
