DEPUTY Commissioner (Operations) Anton Billie says the deadline for the eight men identified by two sorcery-torture survivors in Southern Highlands’ Kagua-Erave to surrender has lapsed.
“We will now move in to arrest everyone who helped to hide the suspects identified in the video that was circulated on social media,” he said. “The first of the villagers to be arrested and charged is a councillor. He has now been released on bail awaiting his next hearing.
“We have also identified the glassman and the person who hired the so called glassman to determine the death of their relative.
“We initially gave the villagers two weeks to hand over the men. We then gave them another two weeks when leaders of the villages approached us, but those two weeks lapsed last week.
“We will not wait, we will now move into the village.
“I was on the ground at Pawayamo in Aiya and I saw where the five women were tortured and where three died and were buried.
“I told the people to work with the police and hand over the suspected sorcery torturers but they have refused to listen.
“The two survivors have given their statements and have gone through the video footage and identified the men.
“We will now make arrests.”
In the video, three women were tied up on a makeshift bed, tortured and a man is seen climbing on top of the bed and tightening the blinds on the women.
Another two women were on the ground being tortured.
