A 23-YEAR-OLD woman who killed a man by grabbing and squeezing his scrotum and testicles was jailed eight years by the National Court in Kundiawa on Tuesday.
In mitigation, Ruth Wemin said: “I am sorry to God, (Darua Joseph) Kuamainde’s family and my family members. I did not mean to kill him. I ask for mercy and for the court to give me a lesser penalty.”
Justice Daniel Liosi in jailing Ruth Wemin, from Gumine’s Korkoa village in Chimbu, described the circumstance of the killing as “rare.”
“It was done by an attack on a vulnerable part of a man’s body. Whatever categories of killing a person is charged with, the circumstances under which they are committed will differ,” he said.
“This dictates what category of killing a person is charged with.
“But the end result is one.
“A life is lost for good.”
Wemin will spend six years and 10 months in jail after time spent in pre-trial custody was deducted.
On Aug 31, 2020, Wemin slept with Kumainde in his house in Happ Wara settlement in Kundiawa town.
In the morning, Wemin had an argument with Kumainde and grabbed both his scrotum and squeezed them hard, causing his death. On Dec 6, Wemin pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
She lives in Sigirap Market, Kundiawa town.
The court heard that she had never been to school.
She was involved in informal marketing, selling food items to sustain herself and her family.
