IALIBU-PANGIA MP Peter O’Neill says the country is in a mess because of wasted money and opportunities.
“The Coronavirus (Covid-19) is not the reason the country is now in a mess; that is the Government’s lie,” he said.
“Prime Minister (James Marape), who I supported to have a chance to manage the country, is lost and clueless and made a mess of everything he has touched. He caused the shutdown of Porgera mine, he caused Total (French operator) to delay the construction phase of Papua liquefied natural gas, P’nyang is on hold and foreign investors are staying away until he is out of office.
“What does this mean for Papua New Guineans?
“It means that Marape has cost you jobs, has caused businesses to close. Our mines would have been generating revenue and our people would have jobs.”
Speaking to the people in Pangia, Southern Highlands, on Saturday, the People’s National Congress (PNC) Party leader and former prime minister said: “Do not be fooled by Marape’s latest back flip to re-introduce free education that he took away two years ago.
“This is an election bribe after making parents pay school fees for two years and many of our children missing out on school that time,” O’Neill said.
“Free education is a core PNC policy and it will always be free education under a PNC-led government.
“The previous PNC government invested in not only education, but sports so that our youths can be active in both mind and body.”
