AFTER dropping off his children at Wawin National High School in Morobe, a father on his way back to Madang was gunned down at Koroba, Bruce Jeffcoat Highway, Usino-Bundi on Tuesday at about 3am.
The murder closely followed a PMV bus being held up at the same area on Monday morning.
Madang police are scrambling to control what is now seen as retaliation as several homes have been burnt down by friends and relatives of the deceased, who was identified as a local businessman from Western Highlands but a resident of Madang.
Police commander acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said that the deceased was sitting on the passenger’s seat near the driver when armed men held up the bus and its occupants.
“The deceased was identified as Daniel Kansol, he was on board a Route 100 PMV bus ‘Kumul Force’ a 25-seat green and white striped Coaster,” Rubiang said.
“The bus had to stop and navigate a bump when armed men came out of the bus and held the driver at gunpoint, according to the other passengers.
“They pointed the gun at the deceased, and without any hesitation, the gunman pulled the trigger.
“The bullet broke the glass, hit the deceased.
“He collapsed and died on the spot.”
According to passengers and the driver, a factory-made shotgun was used in the shooting,” Rubiang added.
All the other passengers were good, so they went straight to Walium Police Station and reported the incident.
Rubiang said police had gathered information and had some names of the suspects.
