Cop killed, properties destroyed

PORT MORESBY: A policeman was stabbed to death in Jiwaka’s Banz on Friday (Nov 11, 2022) night, triggering retaliation by colleagues who reportedly burnt down houses and vehicles.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Operations) Anton Billie said the off-duty policeman, attached to Banz CID, had gone to a club for drinks.

He was later removed by security guards after causing trouble in the club.

“He walked back to the barracks, then came back with a firearm. One of the security guards overpowered him and stabbed him,” Billie said.

A POLICEMAN was stabbed to death in Banz, Jiwaka, on Friday night, triggering a retaliation by colleagues who reportedly burnt down houses and vehicles.
Deputy commissioner of police, operations, Anton Billie said the off-duty policeman, attached to the criminal investigation division in Banz, had gone to a club for drinks.
He was later removed by security guards after causing trouble inside.
“He walked back to the barracks, then came back with a firearm. One of the security guards overpowered him and stabbed him,” Billie said.
He said some policemen allegedly retaliated on Saturday, burning down houses and vehicles.
The club was also damaged. “We have deployed mobile squads from Mt Hagen,” Billie said.
