Man jailed 50 years for raping his two daughters

PORT MORESBY: Describing the crime scene as “a house of horrors”, a judge jailed a man 50 years for raping his two daughters when they were aged 13 and 14 over a two-year period.

Judge John Kaumi on Friday (Nov 18, 2022) said “this is a very serious case”.

“The girls are his biological daughters. The father in some instances subjected the girls and their mother to watch while he raped one of them.

”This is a classic case of what I can only best describe as the house of horrors, in which the father, as the head of a family, perpetrated his deranged, twisted and diabolic sense of what is supposed to belong to the holy matrimony, into numerous sessions of sexual orgies,” he added.

DESCRIBING the crime scene as “a house of horrors”, a judge jailed a man 50 years for raping his two daughters when they were aged 13 and 14 over a two-year period. Judge John Kaumi on Friday said “this is a very serious case”.
“The girls are his biological daughters. The father, in some instances, subjected the girls and their mother to watch while he raped one of them.
“This is a classic case of what I can only best describe as the house of horrors, in which the father, as the head of the family, perpetrated his deranged, twisted and diabolic sense of what is supposed to belong to the holy matrimony, into numerous sessions of sexual orgies,” he added.
He said the father’s sex partners were his own flesh and blood and his wife, and that had been going on for two years before the matter was reported to police in Lae by the girls and their mother.
The rapes were committed between Jan 1, 2018, and Dec 31, 2019, in Menyamya and Bulolo.
Judge Kaumi said the offences were committed consciously and intentionally with cold and calculated efficiency, especially when on one occasion, the father blindfolded his other four children and took turns to rape his daughters and their mother in a locked room.
Justice Kaumi said for the rape of his two daughters, the father would serve 25 years each cumulatively, which is a total of 50 years.
In applying the “Totality Principle”, Justice Kaumi deducted 20 years from the head sentence and further deducted two years and a month in custody while awaiting his sentence.
The father will serve 27 years and 11 months in Buimo Prison with hard labour cumulative to any sentence he is serving.
