TWO policemen in Manus have been arrested and
remanded over sexual offences, one drunk policeman allegedly burnt the daily
occurrence book and locals attacked the police station, says Manus police
commander Chief Supt Kiweri Kesambi.
Kesambi said the three alleged incidents all occurred early this month.
“Two of our police officers have been arrested over sexual allegations and are
now remanded in custody,” he said.
“They are also suspended from duty.
“In another incident, our daily occurrence book was burnt by a drunk police
officer.
“This officer has been arrested and charged accordingly, and suspended from
duties. And early this month, locals stormed the police station, demanding the
release of a murder suspect.
“The locals assaulted some of our officers, claiming that we (police) had
allowed the murder suspect to roam freely outside of police cells instead of
being detained inside the cell block.
“Officers have denied this and I have, therefore, made a request to our
divisional commander to identify independent investigators from outside of
Manus to come in and investigate this matter and take appropriate actions.”
Meanwhile, there was one wilful murder incident at Lowa village along the west
coast of Manus.
“The deceased, was stabbed with a bayonet on his left shoulder.”
