TWELVE people accused of killing a 56-year-old man in Bogia, Madang, on Oct 24, are in custody at the Jomba police station.
Provincial police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the man was accused of being a sorcerer and was attacked in his house.
He said police travelled to Korak village, Bogia, on Tuesday and arrested the suspects.
“The suspects are from Korak village and were brought to the Jomba Police Station at 6pm and are now detained for further investigation,” Rubiang said. He said on the night of Oct 24, the deceased was asleep in his room when the suspects entered his house and murdered him.
“His wife and son were asleep in another room when they allegedly broke in,” Rubiang said.
Rubiang said three suspects based themselves at the house of the deceased’s grandson about 25 metres away and six went to the victim’s house.
“Five of them stood outside the house and one climbed a ladder and entered the house.”
Rubiang said the killing was brutal as a bush knife was used in front of his family.
“One suspect chopped off the deceased’s left hand and stabbed him in the face and shoulder blade which was the cause of his death.”
Rubiang said the suspects would be processed after investigations.
