Two killed in ‘çult’ attack in Madang

PORT MORESBY: Two people were killed and three others wounded in an attack by their relative in Madang’s Brick Market Settlement on Oct 31, Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang says.

“The man aged 60 and woman aged 40 were believed to have been murdered by a relative who was allegedly involved in cult practice,” he added.

TWO people were killed and three others wounded in an attack by their relative in Madang’s Brick Market Settlement in Madang on Oct 31, Commander Acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.
“The man aged 60 and woman aged 40, were believed to have been murdered by a relative who was allegedly involved in cult practice,” he said.
“They sustained multiple knife wounds.
“The woman died while a nurse was treating her and the man died the next day (Nov 1).”
Rubiang said three men survived serious knife wounds with two discharged by the hospital after receiving treatment.
“The other man had to remain warded as his nose was cut, causing breathing difficulties,” he said.
“The family’s spokesman said they received several stories that the suspect was believed to have been involved in a ritual or a cult somewhere in the villages in Madang.
“He had left home for a month without letting anyone know where he was going.”
Rubiang said on Oct 28, the suspect returned home from his trip.
“Two days after his arrival, this barbaric act happened,” he added.
Rubiang said the suspect had also sustained knife wounds from the public.
However, he was rescued by the police response team.
“The police took him to Modilon Hospital where he was treated and after was taken to the Jomba Cellas with his medical supplies,” he said.
“The suspect is in police custody until he is formally arrested and charged once witnesses are available to give their stories.”
