DOZENS of people were injured and properties damaged when an ethnic fight broke out in Port Moresby’s Gordon Market yesterday.
National Capital District Central Senior Inspector David Terry appealed to leaders of the two ethnic groups to get together and discuss how to live peacefully. “The situation is quiet now but still tense,” he said.
Terry said the police would maintain presence in the market and Gordon.
“We will ensure that the leaders come together and resolve their grievances through a peace mediation,” he said. Terry said if the leaders were involved directly or indirectly, they all needed to stop.
“For the safety of the public, leaders need to talk to their community members to stop fighting,” he added.
