Daru police station attacked
PORT MORESBY: The Daru police station was attacked by
the public after three policemen allegedly assaulted a suspect in the station
on Tuesday (Nov 1, 2022).
“The three policemen
have been arrested and detained in the station,” commander Chief Superintendent
Silva Sika said.
Sika said an
investigation was being conducted to establish the facts.

THE Daru police
station was attacked by the public after three policemen allegedly assaulted a
suspect in the station on Tuesday.
“The three policemen have been arrested and detained in the station,” commander
Chief Superintendent Silva Sika said.
Sika said an investigation was being conducted to establish facts.
“According to eye witnesses, the detainees and public, the three policemen arrested
a suspect, brought him to the station, charged him and put him in the cell
before leaving.
“After an hour, they returned to the station, took the suspect out and started
beating him.
“They beat him till he collapsed and was unconscious.
“The public were upset by the assault and stoned the police station and the
three policemen,” he said.
“The station commander was ordered to have the three arrested and to
investigate the incident.
“I also cannot comment on the extent of damage to the police station. The
station commander will be giving me a report on the damage.
“The three policemen are innocent till proven guilty, but let me also make it
clear that no men including policemen, are above the law.
“If they are found guilty of assault, causing grievous bodily harm, they will
be charged accordingly,” he added.
